I have dedicated much of my career to challenging and traversing boundaries between musical genres. There is fantastic music to be found everywhere, that can gain fresh new perspective by being transplanted into a new musical world.
I have also devoted much of my life to exploring the voice, finding new ways to use it, and helping others do the same. I used to believe there was a ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ way to sing, after having studied and practiced in the western classical tradition for decades. I now believe we can do pretty much anything we want with our voices, as long as it feels right and is worked into the voice over time and with practice. For me, telling the story with the voice that best serves it is of ultimate importance.
I have long admired the generous leadership style of Larry Beckwith and the openness and enthusiasm with which he approaches new musical endeavours, and I am so happy to be a part of the Confluence Artistic team!
